The 6-day Authentic Cultural Experience tour of Senegal will take you on a journey through some of the most iconic and significant places in the country. The tour will start off with a visit to the African Renaissance Monument, which is the tallest statue in Africa and is located on a hilltop overlooking Dakar, the capital city of Senegal. The statue is a symbol of the rebirth of Africa and represents the values of freedom, dignity, and the human spirit.
Next, you will visit Goree Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a former center of the transatlantic slave trade. The island is home to several historical buildings and monuments, including the House of Slaves, which is a museum dedicated to the history of the slave trade. You will also have the opportunity to explore the island's streets and visit local artisans who specialize in traditional crafts such as batik and jewelry making.
Another highlight of the tour will be a visit to Pink Lake, which is a unique body of water that is known for its pink color caused by the high salt content in the water. The lake is also a popular spot for swimming, sunbathing, and taking in the beautiful views of the surrounding area.
The tour will also take you to Kaolack, a city that is known for its traditional pottery and crafts. You will have the opportunity to visit local markets and meet with artisans who specialize in pottery, woodcarving, and other traditional crafts.
Touba, a sacred city for the Mouride brotherhood, an influential Sufi Muslim group, is also on the itinerary. The city is home to the Grand Mosque of Touba, which is the largest mosque in West Africa and a pilgrimage site for millions of Muslims.
Additionally, the tour will also take you to Ndagane, a village that is home to a traditional Senegalese wrestling academy. You will have the opportunity to learn about the history and culture of wrestling in Senegal and even get a chance to see a live wrestling match.
Finally, the tour will end with a visit to Saly, a popular coastal resort town that is known for its beautiful beaches, luxury resorts, and delicious seafood. You will have the opportunity to relax on the beach, try local seafood, and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

DAY 1
ARRIVE DAKAR, SENEGAL
Upon arrival at the Blaise Diagne International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to your hotel. Relax and unwind for the rest of the day.

DAY 2
DAKAR CITY TOUR – GOREE
Following breakfast, we depart on a discovery tour of Dakar. Sites include: the African Renaissance Monument: a 164 Feet high monument overlooking Dakar and is taller than the Statue of Liberty. The once controversial bronze statue is a popular attraction among locals as well as visitors. It features a man, woman and child pointing, a symbol of renewed African hope. The woman is now decently clothed, as conservative groups forced the lengthening of her formerly short skirt, at a cost of more than US$ 10 million, to more modest length. We will also visit the Independence Place, the heart of the city, you will pass by the presidential palace and the main cathedral.
In the afternoon, depart on a 20 minutes ferry ride to visit the charming yet infamous Goree Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the usually quiet Streets lined with pastel colored colonial era buildings from where you can enjoy amazing views over the Dakar bay. Among the most famous buildings here is the House of Slaves which records the painful history of Goree’s past.
Observe the “Door of No Return” through which millions passed.. The tour includes a visit to the ethnographic museum and a lecture by the curator on the history of Goree. We return to Dakar for overnight.

DAY 3
DAKAR – PINK LAKE – TOUBA – KAOLACK
After breakfast, we set off further east to explore Ghana’s culture and nature. We will make a stop at TK beads, experts in making beautiful traditional beads using ancient methods. Your guide will talk you through the skilled process of making the beads. Beads are culturally a symbol of wealth and beauty here in Ghana and are still used during traditional durbars and festivals. After the demonstration we can admire and purchase a wide selection of beads that have been made here in the onsite shop.
We continue to the breathtaking Shai Hills Game Reserve. Observe the beautiful range of rocky hills sitting in the midst of large wooded grassland. Several cave systems embedded in the hills have played an important role in local history, culture & tradition of the Shai people. The reserve is home to 31 species of mammals more than 175 species of birds, 13 reptiles’ species.
We also enjoy a picturesque drive to the famous Akosombo Dam for a scenic boat cruise to explore the infamous Volta Lake for about 30-40 minutes tour of the cradle of Ghana’s Hydroelectric power. This Hydro-electric Dam is located within the Akosombo gorge, on the Volta River. The construction of the dam resulted in the flooding of the Volta River Basin which resulted in the creation of Lake Volta, the largest man-made lake in the world which covers about 3.6% of Ghana’s total land area.

DAY 4
KAOLACK – NDAGANE
In the morning, we’ll drive close to Gambia Border to the megalithic circles of Sine Ngayene a UNESCO World Heritage site. This complex is made of 52 circles of standing stones. There are more than 11000 carved stones on the site. Nearby is the quarry from which the monoliths were extracted and where more than hundreds have been traced.
We continue to the Sine Saloum. Sail through the mangroves forest to spot river birds and enjoy the beautiful views of nature. Overnight in Ndagane.

DAY 5
NDAGANE – JOAL – SALY
After a well deserved breakfast, we check out and drive to Saly. Enroute, visit villages, millenary and sacred trees. We will also visit Joal, a former Portuguese settlement and the birthplace of Senghor, the first president of Senegal. Walk on a wooden bridge to Fadiouth island settled on a pile of shells and see the mixed cemetery where Animists, Muslims, and Christians alike are buried side by side.
We continue to Mbour and visit the fishing port before checking in your hotel in Saly.

SALY – DAKAR – DEPART
Enjoy the day at leisure. You will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
